Subject: Amazing Album.
This album is a great accomplishment when it comes to DIY production. This is for fans of metal such as Lamb of God, Opeth, or Metalcore in genral. BUT, dont take that the wrong way, becuase it also carries amny elements that are unique to its sound. For example, the way that sour milk theorem makes use of the synth (which is not programmed, but actually palyed on a keyboard is I am not mistaken, bravo for that)is very well done. In fact the one track that is purely synth completely fits in with the metal album. A very very nice touch. Overall I have to give this album a four star rating. Many props to Ian Goetchius for his muti talented work on this album.

Subject: So good
Not a track out of place. Instrumentation is very well done and cohesive. Vocals are also very well done. Just all together this ep is such a good release.

Subject: A great release all around
Sour Milk Theorem's The 6th Dimension of Chaos starts off with the epic-length Enter Solace, and from the moment it picks up you realize that Ian knows what he's doing. The guitars are well composed with chord progressions, harmonizing, leads, harmonizing leads for that matter, and even clean sections. The melodic style along with catchy choruses that are present in most of the tracks bring acts like Amon Amarth and Omnium Gatherum to mind. Some of the "drop-to-cleans" and "pick-back-ups" (so to speak) will catch you off guard, which keeps it intersting. The bass doesn't have much of a presence, but this is metal, right? The vocal work is in the top tier for underground music. (ie not underground at all) I'm not exactly sure how he achieves his vocal sound, but either way it sounds nice. For the most part they are low screamed vocals, but occassionaly there are duel vocals and clean vocals. The keyboards add an extra level when they're noticable, such as in Lost Portals. I have the feeling that Sour Milk Theorem's sound, like Chimaira's for example, would be quite different without the keys despite the fact that they aren't necessarily prominant most of the time. The programmed drums aren't over emphasized; they merely hold the music together, which is what you want programmed drums to do when they accompany real instruments. The mixing is well done, with only a couple brief parts where this sounds a little too quiet or that too loud. White Wall of Silence- an electronic sounding clean instrumental is the segway to the final track With Fog and Sunken Ships. I thoroughly enjoy this beautiful, atmospheric final track that picks up near the end with a solo over a not-quite-breakdown. The only flaw I notice in this release is tiny mixing errors here and there, but I'm never satisfied with even my own mixing. I see no reason to give this release any less than five stars.
